Day 1: Thursday’s Smooth Dance Session and Halloween Fun

The first day of the Paragon Dancesport Championships kicked off with Thursday’s matinee, featuring the Smooth dance session. This category demands elegance, flow, and precision, and Mariam and Steward proved they had it all. Competing in the Gentlemen’s Closed Silver Smooth Championship, they claimed 1st place, a fantastic way to start the competition! Later in the day, they faced tough competition in the Dancers Cup Tour – Closed Silver Smooth Scholarship, placing 4th among 11 talented couples. Their graceful movements and clear connection on the floor made a statement, marking a strong beginning to their journey at the event.

As the evening approached, the ballroom transformed into a Halloween-themed celebration for the Night Club dance session. Known for its relaxed, fun atmosphere, this session allowed dancers to let loose and show off their unique styles. Since the Paragon Championships typically fall around Halloween, the theme has become a beloved tradition. From spooky costumes to festive decorations, the Halloween theme added an extra layer of fun to the evening, with dancers and spectators alike enjoying the night. For Mariam and Steward, it was a chance to step back, soak in the atmosphere, and prepare for the competitive sessions yet to come.

Day 2: Rhythm Dance Victories and International Ballroom Glory

Friday’s matinee was dedicated to the Rhythm dance session, a style that emphasizes timing, energy, and musicality. Mariam and Steward took to the floor with high spirits, showcasing the precision and vibrancy that define Rhythm dancing. They placed 1st in the Gentlemen’s Closed Silver Rhythm Championship, a testament to their hard work and preparation. But their day was far from over; they also competed in the Dancers Cup Tour – Closed Silver Rhythm Scholarship, securing an impressive 4th place from 7 couples. This competitive session added another victory to their achievements, reinforcing their status as top contenders.

The excitement continued Friday evening with the International Ballroom dance session. Known for its classic and refined style, this session includes dances like the Waltz, Tango, and Foxtrot, all performed with traditional elegance. Mariam and Steward entered the Gentlemen’s Closed Gold Ballroom Championship and wowed the judges, earning 1st place. They continued to shine in the Closed Gold Ballroom Scholarship, taking home another 1st place finish. This sweep of the International Ballroom categories was a proud moment for MI Fiesta, and Mariam and Steward’s poised, polished performances truly set them apart on the dance floor.

Day 3: International Latin Success and the 9-Dance Championship Win

On Saturday, the matinee session focused on International Latin, an expressive and energetic style that demands both technique and passion. In the Gentlemen’s Closed Silver Latin Championship, Mariam and Steward once again achieved 1st place, demonstrating their versatility and dedication. Their Latin dances, from the Cha-Cha to the Rumba, were filled with captivating movements and undeniable chemistry. Later in the Dancers Cup Tour – Closed Silver Latin Scholarship, they faced intense competition, securing a commendable 2nd place among eight couples. The Latin session was a beautiful way to showcase the expressive and vibrant side of ballroom, and MI Fiesta’s dancers did not disappoint.

The ultimate highlight came at the end of the weekend when Mariam and Steward competed in the Pro-Am Open ‘C’ 9-Dance Championships. This category requires a strong command of both American Smooth and Rhythm as well as International Latin and Ballroom, a true test of versatility and endurance.
