MI Fiesta Holiday Dance Showcase: A Festive Weekend of Dance, Community, and Celebration

There’s something special about dancing during the holidays. The music feels warmer, the smiles last longer, and every step carries a sense of celebration. This year, the MI Fiesta Holiday Dance Showcase brought all of that together during a joyful two-day event, with a holiday showcase and a Tinsel and Kandy Friday night party hosted by TK Dance Studio in Waltham. They were creating memories that perfectly captured the spirit of the season.
On December 12 and 13, dancers, students, friends, and family gathered for a weekend that blended a social ballroom dance party, inspiring performances, and meaningful personal milestones. From first-time dancers stepping onto the floor to students performing some of the most demanding ballroom styles, the weekend reminded us why ballroom dancing is about far more than just steps — it’s about connection, courage, and community.
Friday Evening: Tinsel & Kandy Ballroom Social Dance Party
The celebration began Friday night with the Tinsel & Kandy Holiday Party, a festive evening that welcomed dancers of every level. The night started at 8:15 PM with a beginner group lesson, designed to make everyone feel comfortable, even those who had never danced before.
The lesson was taught by Tibor “T-Bone” Kerekes from TK Dance Studio, who introduced guests to Triple Time Swing in a relaxed, encouraging way. The focus wasn’t on perfection, but on having fun, feeling the rhythm, and realizing that ballroom dancing is truly for everyone. Many guests took their very first dance steps that night, proving once again that a well-structured beginner lesson can turn nervous curiosity into confident smiles within minutes.
At 9:00 PM, the floor opened for a lively ballroom social dance night that lasted until 11:00 PM. The room quickly filled with holiday music, laughter, and dancers enjoying everything from swing and ballroom classics to festive seasonal songs. This kind of social ballroom dance party is where friendships form naturally — between dances, during shared laughs, and through the joy of moving together.

Friday Night Performances: A Taste of What’s Possible
One of the highlights of the evening was the showcase performances woven into the party. These moments gave guests a glimpse of what dedicated training and passion can create, while still keeping the atmosphere light and celebratory.
The audience enjoyed a performance by an amateur couple dancing International Tango, followed by a special showcase from one of TK Dance Studio’s wedding couples, sharing their journey through dance. The night also featured a unique collaborative performance by MI Fiesta Dance and Jani Dance, dancing Tango and Paso Doble together with Stewart. Seeing three dancers share the floor in one routine was especially striking, adding creativity and excitement that left a lasting impression.
Many guests were inspired seeing dancers they had just shared the floor with moments earlier now performing at a higher level. These performances will be available to watch later on our website, offering another chance to relive the energy of the night.
Saturday Afternoon: MI Fiesta Holiday Dance Showcase
The celebration continued the next day with the official holiday ballroom show, beginning at 12:00 PM at TK Dance Studio. The ballroom dance showcase was thoughtfully organized into three acts, creating a smooth flow of performances while allowing everyone time to relax, socialize, and enjoy the atmosphere.
Between acts, guests enjoyed pizza and sodas, giving dancers time to reset and connect with friends and family. The decorations, lighting, and overall feeling in the room created a warm holiday environment — elegant yet welcoming — making it clear that this showcase was about celebrating people just as much as performances.
MI Fiesta students performed in the first act, setting a strong and confident tone for the show. Watching students step onto the floor, many of whom had once started with their very first beginner lesson, was a powerful reminder of how far dedication and supportive coaching can take you.
Student Performances and Milestones
Saturday’s showcase featured a wide range of dance styles and personal achievements. Sharon Paywell delivered an expressive Rhythm showdance, while Mark, Maggie, and Imi performed a two-couple routine in collaboration with Totalissimo Dance, demonstrating connection and teamwork across partnerships.
The audience was also treated to Lauren Paul’s Hustle, full of energy and personality, followed by Anne Martin’s American Waltz, which brought elegance and classic ballroom beauty to the floor. One of the most touching moments of the day came from Eleanor Paglia, who performed Viennese Waltz for the very first time.
Viennese Waltz is widely considered one of the most impressive and challenging dances in Smooth ballroom, requiring stamina, precision, and strong musical awareness. Seeing Eleanor take on this dance for the first time was inspiring, not only because of the performance itself, but because of the courage it takes to try something new on stage.
Another meaningful milestone was Mark’s first-ever showcase, a moment that perfectly captured the supportive spirit of the ballroom dance community. First showcases are unforgettable, and the encouragement from fellow dancers and the audience made the experience even more special.
A Perfect Way to Close the Year
As the weekend came to an end, there was a shared feeling that this event was the perfect way to close out the year. The MI Fiesta Holiday Dance Showcase wasn’t just about performances — it was about celebrating progress, friendships, and the joy of dancing together.
With the holiday season continuing, dancers are already looking forward to the New Year’s Eve Party at TK Dance Studio on December 31, as well as the Grand Opening Party at Sabor Dance Studio on December 19, marking an exciting expansion of our dance community.
